In 2020, Global Health Visions was asked by the United Nations Inter-Agency Task Force on the Prevention and Control of Non-communicable Diseases to undertake an informal review of the United Nations Joint Global Programme on the Elimination of Cervical Cancer which was established in 2016.
The joint programme has provided support to Bolivia, Mongolia, Morocco, Myanmar, Tanzania, and Uzbekistan. The review findings demonstrate that a joint approach is the right approach when it comes to cervical cancer: when UN agencies and their partners are coordinated and organized around a common goal, important results are achieved. The review also identified a number of valuable lessons for future joint UN action to support countries to most effectively deliver the Global Strategy to Accelerate the Elimination of Cervical Cancer as a Public Health Problem, which was announced by the WHO Director General in 2018.
